Week 6 Roundup by AM
The 1st XI picked up 7 valuable points at home to Walsall YMF, in a game that ebbed and flowed throughout. SMCC managed 200 all out in their 50 overs thanks to Martin Weir, Jim Shirley and Jack Hemming who top scored with 44. In reply Pete Westwood picked up three wickets in his opening spell and then returned to complete his 5-for whilst Ben Tarry picked up 3 wickets in between however a few dropped catches eventually cost our chance of victory.

The 2nd XI weer able to watch most of the 2nd innings after a heavy defeat at Pickwick. Steve Bose's 38 was the only notable performance as our 86 was easily surpassed by the hosts. The 3rd XI recorded their 2nd win of the campaign, successfully chasing Aston Unity's 165. Jamil Khan and Hassan Ramzan picked up 7 wikcets between them, before Malcolm Purvis's 42 secured victory.

The Sunday sides faired better with victories for the 1st XI against Warwick and the 2nd XI at Knowle Village. There were half centuries for Warren Millard, Mark Benbow and Adrian Maguire as totals were chased down.

Bank Holiday Round Up by AM
Not the greatest weekend for the club as 7 games remarkably resulted in 2 ties and 5 defeats. On Saturday the 1st XI suffered a heavy defeat against Old Eds at Foliet Fields being dismissed for 114 before losing by 6 wickets. The 2nd XI suffered a similar fate in the reverse fixture, losing by 8 wickets after posting 157, thanks to 42 not out from Liam Barrett. The 3rd XI also went down by 8 wickets to a string Southam side after being dismissed for 124.

Monday saw improved performances as teh 1st XI picked up 7 points at Highway, failing by just a couple of balls to secure the losing draw. The 2nd XI had a topsy-turvy game with Highway, with the opposition looking set for a very large total until they were pegged back to 235 all out, thanks to 7-70 from Ansar Hussain. SMCC were going well in reply with Ansel Pottinger, Ansar and Steve Mullard all in the runs, until late wickets saw the game swing back to the visitors. 6 were needed from the final over with the last pair at the wicket, this became 2 off the last ball, but a run out attempting the 2nd saw the match finish tied.

The Under 15's kicked their season off with a cup defeat at the hands of Marston Green. Their league campaign started on Sunday with another tie, this time with Weoley Hill. Both sides scored 93 runs, with Sharaz Ahmed and Dominic McDonald providing the majority of the SMCC total with 51 and 25 respectively.

This week sees WCL fixtures against Walsall YMF and Pickwick, whilst the ASL resumes with Warwick and Knowle Village providing the opposition. The Under 15's are also in action again against Attock.

Week 2 Roundup by AM
The First XI hung on for a losing draw at home to Offchurch. Fearing a run chase like last year when SMCC exceeded 290, the visitors batted their entire 50 overs amassing 345 - 4. In reply SMCC were in trouble but an unbroken 9th wicket stand between Mark Bembow and Rob Nicholls secured the losing draw and maximum batting points, closing on 202 - 8. The Second XI made the long trip to Southam and were unfortunate to go down by 2 wickets. After being inserted SMCC managed 188 - 7 thanks to 53 from Jerome Greaves, 31 from Mohammed Tahir and an unbeaten 25 from Steve Mullard. In the field luck deserted us as many edges went just wide or just over fielders and the home side scraped home.

The ASL started on Sunday, with the 1st XI going down at Bournville despite a personal best 48 from Rishi Parmar. There was better news at Foliot Fields where the 2nd XI defeated Weoley Hill by 24 runs. SMCC recovered from 99 - 7 to 186 - 9 thanks to 55 from Adrian Maguire, well supported by Wasim Ramzan with 24 and a steady 9 not out from Zane Arif. Weoley Hill looked to be getting on top but had no reply to Steve Mullard who won the match with 5 - 13, there were also 3 wickets for Jerome Greaves.

Finally the Junior season got underway with the Under 13's just going down at Nether Whitacre despite 33 from Max Hanlon. The Under 15's get underway this Sunday morning with a home game against Marston Green, whilst the Second team host Bronze and Corley over the weekend, the First XI travel to Stockton and Four Oaks.
