Sunday friendly won by 20 runs

The Sunday friendly at SMCC was won by 20 runs, my sources tell me. A good game played in excellent spirits. Another 69 runs for Jack Hemming, whilst Adam Coppell opened 2007 with a half century.

League fixtures start on Saturday.

Jack Hemming Hundred on First Day

Opening day visitors Warwick were put to the sword by Jack Hemming, who hit a magnificent 126 as SMCC won by two wickets. A partnership of 179 between Jack and Keith Rondeau, who was dropped twice before going on to hit 67, laid the foundations for the win.

Earlier, Warwick had won the toss and elected to bat on a glorious sunny day. The Foliot Fields pitch played well and the openers moved at almost 10 an over for the first 6 overs, as SMCC struggled to get 2007 going. A flurry of wickets brought the score to 68-4 before Wynn-Evans and skipper Passey rebuilt. Wynn-Evans was given a life on 9, and made the most of it by going on to hit 85 before he was last out with the score on 238. Viz Parmar took 4 wickets and Jack Hemming 3. Keith Rondeau returned figures of 9-2-16-2 showing excellent control.

Next week sees the WCL league get underway with Wishaw visiting Foliot Fields in the opening encounter. SMCC’s key players will be hoping to continue their good early form.
