Well done Ansel
| Well done to Ansel Pottinger for his 141 in the 2nd XI victory at Streetly on Saturday. This is the highest score at SMCC for a few years. Currently the highest individual score is 179 not out by Nathan Mayling in the Sunday 2nd XI.
Ansel’s knock included 17 fours and 7 sixes, so not too much running then. When I spoke to him at SMCC on Saturday lunchtime he commented on how he wouldn’t like to own one of the houses backing onto the pitch at Streetly. I can see why! |
This is the only picture I have of Ansel… |

It was an amazing knock, one of the sixes batting at the pavilion end may well still be somewhere in orbit. Ansel in full flow is still one of the most absorbing things to watch - even the Streetly social club went quiet for a time.
The last two SMCC centuries I’ve seen (I think) were Ansel’s and Kamil Munir’s 143 not out vs Four Oaks Saints last year (someone more technical would link to the scorecard - but you’ll have to take my word for it!) Totally different knocks but both equally classy.

Not the most flattering picture of Potts! Looks like he’s doing 10 years for GBH!
